Tejas the Lion
Tejas the Asiatic Lion Cub was born in Chester Zoo in August 2007 his mums name is Asha and his dads name is Asoka.   Jay saw the little lion cub on TV and thought that because Rhys had the heart of a lion, it would be a good idea to name the cub after Rhys.

Jay wrote to Chester Zoo to ask if this was possible.   Tejas was already used to his name, so the Zoo asked Mel and Steve to adopt the lion cub in memory of Rhys. Chester Zoo invited us to meet Tejas in November 2007.

Asiatic Lions can now only be found in India's Gir Forest and with the number of Asiatic Lions plummeting, Tejas who now lives in a zoo in France, will play a major part in the breeding programme for his species, ensuring it continues - so Rhys' lion is playing an important part in making sure the species does not become extinct.

Tejas, whose name is Indian for sharpness, has settled in very well in his new home and he now weighs in at nearly 80kgs. He continues to grow in weight and strength and is developing an impressive mane.
